Circuits and Blue Pictures Announce Strategic Partnership

Circuits, Africa’s leading virtual cinema and digital entertainment platform, which has rapidly grown to become the biggest virtual cinema in Nigeria, has announced a landmark partnership with Blue Pictures. The collaboration will cover co-production, distribution of premium titles, and the implementation of key initiatives designed to strengthen Africa’s creative economy, with a strong focus on empowering women and youth.

Audiences can look forward to exciting new releases, including Family Brouhaha and other premium content that showcase the richness and diversity of African storytelling.

Joy Odiete, CEO of Blue Pictures, described the partnership with passion: “This partnership with Circuits is more than just business; it is about rewriting the future of African cinema. Together, we are building bridges for Nollywood and African stories to reach global audiences while creating real opportunities for women and youth to thrive in the creative economy.”

Adding to this, Imade Bibowei-Osuobeni, COO at Circuits, highlighted the platform’s commitment to growth and transparency: “With all the growth and improvements on Circuits, producers have, since June 2025, had access to their back-end data to validate sales reports and review detailed sales analytics, in addition to the monthly reports they had been receiving since inception. As of this month, four producers have become eligible for additional payouts after their initial minimum guarantee/licensing fees and will continue to receive monthly payments for as long as their films remain on the platform and generate revenue. This was always the vision: ensuring that money consistently goes into the hands of those who do the hard work. With a content protection system like no other, we are positioned to distribute African content globally, protect creators’ IP, and ensure their work is fairly and transparently monetised. Viewers should expect nothing less than premium content on Circuits.” -she said.

What Nigerian Filmmakers Need to Know About the Cybercrimes (Amendment) Act 2024

As the Nigerian film industry continues to thrive in the digital age, it's crucial for filmmakers to stay informed about legal frameworks that impact our online activities.

The Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act 2024, signed into law on February 28, 2024, introduces significant changes to Nigeria's cybersecurity landscape.

Key Highlights: Mandatory Reporting of Cyber Incidents: Organizations, including film production companies, are now required to report cyberattacks or security breaches within 72 hours. Failure to comply could result in fines and potential suspension of internet services. . Cybersecurity Levy: A 0.5% levy is imposed on electronic transactions. Filmmakers engaging in online payments or digital sales should be aware of this financial obligation. . Enhanced Penalties for Cyber Offenses: The Act introduces stricter penalties for cybercrimes, including hacking, identity theft, and online fraud. Filmmakers must ensure their digital platforms and content are secure to avoid legal repercussions

Implications for Filmmakers:

  1. Digital Content Protection: Safeguard your films and scripts against unauthorized access or piracy.

  2. Secure Online Transactions: Implement robust cybersecurity measures for online sales, streaming, and financial transactions.

  3. Legal Compliance: Stay informed about the Act's provisions to avoid potential legal issues
