Tunisia's Ministry of Cultural Affairs has appointed the director, screenwriter and producer Mokhtar Ajimi as Director General of the 37th edition of the Journées Cinématographiques de Carthage (JCC), set for December 12–19, 2026 in Tunis. He takes over from Tarek Ben Chaâbane, who led the 36th edition in December 2025.

The JCC, founded in 1966, is one of the oldest film festivals in Africa and the Arab world. Its top award is the Tanit d'Or, and each edition is led by a director appointed by the Ministry for that year.

Ajimi, born in 1957 in Monastir, trained at the IDHEC film school in Paris and began directing at sixteen. He founded and runs the Master International Film Festival (MIFF) in Yasmine Hammamet, Tunisia. His film "Sabbat El Ghoula" had a special screening at the JCC's 36th edition in December 2025.
