The Kenyan-Nigerian romantic comedy East West Love is set for release in cinemas in Kenya on 9 October 2026, opening simultaneously in Nigeria, Canada and the UK. Dates for Tanzania and Uganda will be announced later.
Directed by Tanzanian filmmaker Seko Shamte (Binti), East West Love stars Sunshine Rosman (To Kill a Monkey) as Tito, a Nigerian event planner whose romantic getaway to Mombasa takes an unexpected turn when she discovers her boyfriend has been unfaithful. Rather than cancel the trip, Tito turns it into a girls’ getaway with her best friend, where she meets Juma (Brian Abajah, Married to Work), a hotel manager whose spontaneity challenges her ideas about love and control.
Set predominantly in Mombasa, with scenes also filmed in Lagos, the film brings together a Nigerian and Kenyan cast that also includes Efa Iwara (A Naija Christmas), Elma Mbadiwe (Over the Bridge) and Emmanuel Mugo (Safari). It is produced by Dolapo Adeleke (Just in Time) and Folashayo Oke Sobo (Princess on a Hill).
The October release follows East West Love‘s world premiere in May as the opening film of the 2026 NOW Film Festival (formerly known as NollywoodWeek Film Festival) in Paris. The film subsequently screened at Africa Film Fest Australia in September.
The East African theatrical release is being handled by pan-African entertainment company Okada Media, whose distribution catalogue includes The Girl in the Yellow Jumper, Binti and Kenya’s Oscars 2024 submission Mvera.
“East West Love brings culture, connection and comedy to the cinema screen, which is exactly the kind of story we are passionate about bringing to audiences. It is a perfect fit within the DNA of Okada Media,” said Serge Noukoue, co-founder of Okada Media.
