NFVF Female Filmmaker Project – Facilitating Production Company Call 2026

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) invites eligible Tier 1 and 2 South African production companies to submit proposals to serve as the Facilitating Production Company for the Female Filmmaker Project for a period of three (3) years. The selected company will manage training, development, mentorship and the production of short films by emerging female filmmakers. The programme is funded at R18 million over 3 years (R6 million/year), producing up to 8 short films per year with SABC broadcast partnership.

Format

Short films (23–25 minutes each)

Eligibility

South African owned and registered production companies. Must be majority women-owned (51%+), preference for Black women-owned. Tier 1: proven track record with 3+ successful feature films/series/docs. Tier 2: 1-2 features or 4+ shorts/commercials. Must have 5+ years experience, valid BBBEE certificate, tax compliance. Past/present NFVF Slate recipients and companies with 4+ active NFVF projects do NOT qualify. Must apply as a company, not individually.

What You Get

R6,000,000 per year (R18M total over 3 years) to facilitate the programme. Includes production of up to 8 short films/year at R500,000 each, plus SABC broadcast partnership (2-year exclusive + 3-year non-exclusive licence).

What to Submit

1-2 page motivation, project plan/roll-out, company executive summary, producer and team CVs with filmography, mentorship approach, training and production schedules, risk mitigation plan, talent development example, programme budget, marketing/distribution strategy, certified ID copy, company registration docs, BBBEE certificate, valid Tax Clearance Status PIN.

Insider Tips

Ensure your company meets the 51% women-ownership requirement. Programme facilitation costs cannot exceed 20% of annual budget. Focus on demonstrating mentorship experience with emerging filmmakers. IP rights vest with participating filmmakers — your proposal must respect this. Address regional diversity in your filmmaker selection approach.
