The Durban FilmMart Institute has announced a new Board of Directors, with Tshepiso Chikapa-Phiri appointed chairperson.

The Durban FilmMart Institute has announced a new Board of Directors, with Tshepiso Chikapa-Phiri appointed chairperson.

The announcement was issued on 1 July 2026. The new board took office in early 2026 and includes Ameera Faber, Mocke Jansen van Veuren, Zanele Mthembu, Masi Mtshali, Poovashnee Reddy, and Khalid Shamis.

The Durban FilmMart Institute, established in 2020, is a non-profit screen-sector organization based in Durban, South Africa. It runs year-round development programmes for African film professionals and organizes Durban FilmMart, its annual finance and co-production market for African film projects and industry partners.

Chikapa-Phiri succeeds outgoing chairperson Mpumi Mazibuko. DFMI director Magdalene Reddy said the incoming board brings experience across film production, finance, intellectual property, education, documentary, broadcasting, and industry development.

Chikapa-Phiri is the founder and CEO of Known Associates Group of Companies, a South African media, production, events, and studio-development group. She is also Co-Chair of the South African Screen Federation, Deputy Chairperson of the Independent Producers Organisation, and a member of the Independent Black Filmmakers Collective.

The 17th edition of Durban FilmMart is scheduled for 9โ€“12 October 2026. The 2026 edition is funded by the Durban Film Office, eThekwini Municipality, the Ford Foundation, South Africa's National Film and Video Foundation, and IEFTF.
